Boracay Helmet Diving: Walk on the Ocean Floor Without Scuba Certification

Boracay helmet diving lets you walk on the ocean floor and get face to face with tropical fish and coral without needing any swimming skills, scuba certification, or prior diving experience. A large, air supplied helmet is placed over your head, allowing you to breathe normally while you walk along the seabed surrounded by marine life. It is one of the most accessible underwater activities in Boracay, perfect for travellers who want to experience the underwater world but are not comfortable with snorkeling or scuba diving. The entire experience is supervised by 1 to 2 PADI qualified dive instructors who are with you at all times underwater. The activity begins with hotel pickup from Stations 1, 2, or 3, followed by a short speedboat ride to the dive site. After a safety briefing on the boat, you descend a ladder into the water with your helmet on, and the instructor guides you step by step along the ocean floor for approximately 15 minutes. You will see colorful fish, coral formations, and the unique sensation of walking underwater with crystal clear visibility. Free souvenir pictures are included, so you leave with photos of your underwater walk. Looking for a deeper underwater experience? Check out Boracay Scuba Diving for certified or introductory dives at world class dive sites, or try Boracay Freediving to learn breath hold diving techniques.

How Boracay Helmet Diving Works

  • Step 1: Hotel pickup. Your guide picks you up from your hotel in Stations 1, 2, or 3 at your confirmed time slot. Pickup is available from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • Step 2: Speedboat ride to the dive site. A short speedboat ride takes you to the helmet diving location in calm, shallow waters with good underwater visibility.
  • Step 3: Safety briefing. On the boat, the PADI qualified instructor explains how the helmet works, how to breathe normally, hand signals for communication, and what to expect once you are underwater. The briefing takes about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Step 4: Descend into the water. The heavy helmet is placed on your shoulders while you stand on a platform. You walk down a ladder into the water. Air is pumped continuously into the helmet from a surface supply, so you breathe normally the entire time. Your head and face stay completely dry inside the helmet.
  • Step 5: Walk on the ocean floor. Guided by the instructor, you walk along the seabed for approximately 15 minutes. Tropical fish swim around you and you can see coral formations up close. The instructor takes souvenir photos throughout the walk.
  • Step 6: Ascend and return. After your walk, the instructor guides you back up the ladder onto the boat. The speedboat returns you to shore. Drop off at hotel is not included.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Boracay helmet diving costs ₱1,400 per person as of 2026 for a 15 minute underwater walk on the ocean floor. The price includes hotel pickup from Stations 1, 2, or 3, a speedboat ride to the dive site, PADI qualified dive instructor supervision, all helmet diving equipment, and free souvenir photos taken underwater. No additional fees are required unless you wish to tip the crew.

Yes. Helmet diving in Boracay is considered very safe and is designed specifically for people with no diving or swimming experience. A continuous supply of air is pumped into the helmet from the surface, so there is no risk of running out of air. 1 to 2 PADI qualified dive instructors are in the water with you at all times, guiding you step by step and monitoring your comfort. The dive takes place in calm, shallow waters with good visibility. The helmet is heavy enough to keep you firmly on the ocean floor, so you are walking rather than floating.

Absolutely. Helmet diving was specifically created for non swimmers. You do not need to know how to swim because you are not swimming at any point during the activity. The weighted helmet and shoes keep you grounded on the ocean floor, and you walk along the seabed just like walking on land. Air is supplied continuously to the helmet, so you breathe normally the entire time. The PADI qualified instructor is beside you throughout, and you can signal to return to the surface at any time if you feel uncomfortable.

Helmet diving in Boracay takes place at a depth of approximately 3 to 5 meters (10 to 16 feet) below the surface. This is shallow enough to feel comfortable and see sunlight filtering through the water, but deep enough to walk among coral formations and tropical fish. The shallow depth means there is no risk of decompression sickness (the bends) and you can return to the surface quickly at any time.

The underwater walking portion of helmet diving lasts approximately 15 minutes. The total experience takes about 1 to 1.5 hours when you include hotel pickup, the speedboat ride to the dive site, the safety briefing, the dive itself, and the return boat ride. While 15 minutes may sound short, most participants find it is the perfect duration for a first time underwater walking experience, with plenty of time to see fish, coral, and take souvenir photos.

After hotel pickup and a short speedboat ride, you receive a safety briefing on the boat. The heavy helmet (about 35 kg) is placed on your shoulders while you stand on a platform, and you walk down a ladder into the water. Once underwater, your head and face stay completely dry inside the helmet. You breathe normally as air is pumped in continuously. The instructor guides you along the seabed where colorful fish swim right up to you. You can touch and observe coral formations up close. The instructor takes souvenir photos throughout the walk, which are provided free after the activity.

Most operators require participants to be at least 10 to 12 years old for helmet diving in Boracay. The helmet is heavy (approximately 35 kg) and rests on your shoulders, so the participant needs to be tall enough and physically able to support the weight on the platform before descending. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no strict upper age limit, but the activity is not recommended for persons with ear infections, severe claustrophobia, or serious heart or respiratory conditions.

Helmet diving (₱1,400, 15 minutes) uses a surface supplied air helmet and requires no certification, training, or swimming ability. You walk on the ocean floor in shallow water (3 to 5 meters) and breathe normally inside the helmet. Scuba diving uses a tank and regulator, goes to greater depths (up to 18 meters for beginners), and offers longer dive times of 30 to 45 minutes. Scuba requires either certification or an introductory Discover Scuba course. Choose helmet diving if you want a quick, accessible underwater experience with no training. Choose scuba diving if you want to explore deeper reefs and are willing to invest more time and money in the experience.
